Composite Door Repair Cost in 2026
By Restoration Glazing, Chandler's Ford, Eastleigh · Last updated 21 October 2026

Composite door repairs at Restoration Glazing start at our £180 minimum visit charge, which covers an adjustment for a dropped or sticking door. A new multipoint lock is from £365 and a new cylinder from £156. All our prices include VAT. Composite doors use the same kind of locks, hinges and handles as uPVC doors, and cost about the same to repair, so a fault with the hardware rarely means a new door.
How much does composite door repair cost?
Restoration Glazing's composite door repair prices run from £180 for an adjustment, which is our minimum visit charge, up to £491 for a full set of new hinges on one door. The table shows the part and fitting price for each job, including VAT, and roughly how long it takes on site.
| Repair | What it fixes | Price | Time on site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Door adjustment (hinges, keeps, lubrication) | Door dropped, scraping, stiff to lock, draughty | £180 on its own (minimum charge) | About 35 minutes |
| French door adjustment | Pair of doors not meeting or locking | £180 on its own (minimum charge) | About 1 hour |
| New handle spring blocks | Handle drooping or floppy | £180 on its own (minimum charge) | About 15 minutes |
| New door handle | Handle cracked, loose or snapped | From £101 | About 15 minutes |
| New cylinder with three keys | Key won't turn, lost keys, moving in | From £156 | About 45 minutes |
| New multipoint lock (single door, keeps if needed) | Handle lifts but door won't lock, gearbox failed | From £365 | About 1 hour |
| New French door lock (keeps if needed) | Main lock on a pair of doors failed | From £456 | About 45 minutes |
| New rubber seals | Draughts, whistling, water getting in | From £13.44 per metre | About 4 minutes a metre |
| New door hinges (full set, one door) | Hinges cracked, worn or won't hold an adjustment | From £491 | About 2½ hours |
| Minimum charge per visit | £180 inc VAT |
The £180 minimum covers the whole visit, not each job, so if the door has dropped and the cylinder is stiff, get both done at once.

Is repairing a composite door different from repairing a uPVC door?
Repairing a composite door is much the same job as repairing a uPVC door. Both take the same types of multipoint lock, euro cylinder, handle and hinge, so the parts and fitting cost about the same as on a uPVC door. What's different is the weight and the door itself.
- Composite doors are heavier. Most have a solid insulated core rather than a hollow uPVC panel, so the hinges carry more load and a door can drop a few millimetres over time. That's a common reason a composite door starts catching on the frame or getting stiff to lock.
- The outer skin can't be patched like uPVC. Composite doors have a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) skin with a wood-grain finish. Deep impact damage to the door slab usually means a new door, while the frame, locks and hinges can still be repaired.
- Glass is part of the door. If the glass in a composite door breaks, send us a photo first so we can check how it's fitted before we quote.
Why won't my composite door lock?
A composite door that won't lock is usually out of line rather than broken: it has dropped on its hinges or swollen slightly, so the hooks and bolts no longer meet the keeps in the frame. An adjustment, £180 on its own, sorts most of these. If the handle lifts with no resistance or goes floppy, the lock's gearbox has usually failed and the lock needs replacing.
What's usually behind it:
- The door has dropped. You'll see a bigger gap at the top on the lock side, or the door scrapes the threshold. Adjusting the hinges lifts it back into line.
- Hot weather. Dark composite doors in direct sun can bow slightly on a hot afternoon and get stiff to lock, then ease off once they cool. Don't force the handle up, because that's how gearboxes get broken. If it happens every summer, it's worth getting the keeps adjusted.
- Worn gearbox. The gearbox sits behind the handle and drives every locking point along the edge of the door. When it wears out, the handle feels loose or won't lift, and a new multipoint lock is from £365.
- Cylinder or key. If the key is stiff or won't turn even with the handle lifted, it's usually the cylinder, from £156.
Our guide to adjusting a uPVC door explains how hinges move a door up, down and in. Composite doors use the same kinds of hinges.
What happens when we come out to fix a composite door?
Most of the jobs in our price table take under an hour on site, and an adjustment takes about 35 minutes. Our vans carry some locks and cylinders, so a new one is often fitted on the first visit. If yours is an unusual size or make, we order it in and come back to fit it.
- We open and close the door, check the gaps all round and see where the hooks and bolts meet the keeps.
- We tell you what's wrong and what it costs before we start, every time.
- For a dropped or stiff door we adjust the hinges and keeps, check any loose glass and lubricate the lock.
- For a failed lock we take out the old mechanism from the edge of the door, fit the new one and set the keeps to match.
- We lock and unlock the door several times with the key and the handle before we leave.
If something else on the door is worn, we'll point it out, and it's cheaper to sort it on the same visit.

Is it worth repairing a composite door or should I replace it?
If the door slab and frame are sound, repairing is almost always the better spend. A new composite door from Restoration Glazing costs £1,200 to £2,500 fitted, depending on the style, how complex it is and whether it has side panels, while single repairs run from our £180 minimum to £491 for a full set of new hinges.
Repair makes sense when:
- the problem is a lock, cylinder, handle, hinge or seal
- the door has dropped or gone stiff but isn't cracked
- you like the door and the frame is straight
Our uPVC door repair cost guide covers the same jobs on uPVC doors.
When is a composite door not worth repairing?
A composite door isn't worth repairing when the door slab itself has failed, because new locks and hinges won't make a cracked or badly bowed door seal properly. At that point Restoration Glazing will tell you a new composite door is the better spend.
- The slab is cracked, split or badly impact-damaged.
- It's bowed so badly that it won't lock however the hinges and keeps are set, even in cool weather.
- The frame is twisted or split, so nothing will line up for long.
- Several parts have gone at once and the repair bill is getting close to the price of a new door.
We fit new doors too, so we've no reason to push you either way. If a repair will do the job, we'll say so. A new composite door is made to measure, so we measure the same week you get in touch and fit it 2 to 3 weeks after that. It's never a same-day job.
What should you send us for a fast quote?
A photo of the door, a line about what's wrong and your postcode are enough for us to price most composite door repairs.
- A photo of the whole door from outside
- A close-up of the lock edge and the handle
- If you can, a photo of the gap at the top of the door on the lock side
- What's happening: dropped, sticking, won't lock, handle floppy, key won't turn, draughty
- Your postcode

What else do people ask about composite door repair?
How much does it cost to fix a composite front door?
At Restoration Glazing, fixing a dropped or sticking composite front door costs £180, our minimum visit charge. A new multipoint lock is from £365 and a new cylinder from £156, including VAT.
Can a composite door be repaired?
Yes. Locks, cylinders, handles, hinges and seals on a composite door can all be replaced, and a dropped door can be adjusted. Only a cracked or badly damaged door slab usually means a new door.
Why is my composite door hard to lock?
Usually because the door has dropped on its hinges or bowed slightly in the heat, so the locking points no longer meet the keeps. An adjustment on its own costs £180, our minimum visit charge.
How much is a new lock for a composite door?
Restoration Glazing fits a new multipoint lock on a single composite door from £365 including VAT, with new keeps if they're needed. It takes about an hour.
Should I repair or replace my composite door?
Repair it if the door slab and frame are sound. Single repairs run from £180 to £491, while a new composite door is £1,200 to £2,500 fitted.
Are composite door repairs more expensive than uPVC?
No. Locks, cylinders, handles, hinges and adjustments on a composite door cost about the same as on a uPVC door at Restoration Glazing.
