Broken & Misted Glass
Misted or blown double glazing occurs when the hermetic seal between the two panes of glass fails, allowing moisture to enter the cavity. This is commonly caused by age, exposure to extreme temperatures, or poor initial manufacturing. The good news is that in most cases, only the sealed glass unit needs replacing rather than the entire window frame.
Yes. We board up broken windows and doors as a booked service, Monday to Friday 08:30–17:00, to keep your property secure and weatherproof. We then arrange for a replacement sealed unit or glass pane to be made to measure and fitted. Call 023 8001 2328 to book.
Toughened glass is heat-treated to be approximately 4-5 times stronger than standard glass and shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces when broken. Laminated glass consists of two or more panes bonded with an interlayer that holds the glass together when broken, providing enhanced security. Building regulations require toughened or laminated glass in certain locations such as doors, side panels, and low-level windows.
Energy-rated glass uses special low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings and argon gas fills to reduce heat loss through your windows. A-rated glass can reduce heat loss by up to 25% compared to older double glazing, potentially saving you hundreds of pounds per year on energy bills. Upgrading is especially worthwhile if your existing units are over 15 years old.
Standard sealed double glazed units typically take 5-10 working days from measurement to installation, as each unit is manufactured to your exact specifications. Specialist glass such as patterned, tinted, or triple glazed units may take slightly longer. We'll always give you a clear timeframe when we take your order.
We offer a comprehensive range of glass types including clear float, obscure/patterned glass for privacy, toughened safety glass, laminated security glass, Low-E energy efficient glass, self-cleaning glass, and acoustic glass for noise reduction. We can also supply decorative leaded and Georgian bar designs to match traditional property styles.
Window Repairs
Stiff or jammed windows are usually caused by worn or broken internal mechanisms, seized hinges, or a build-up of dirt and debris in the tracks. Over time, friction hinges can wear out and the espagnolette locking mechanism can seize. In most cases, replacing the hinges and servicing the mechanism will restore smooth operation without needing a new window.
Draughty windows are most commonly caused by worn or perished rubber seals and gaskets, which degrade over time due to UV exposure and temperature changes. Misaligned sashes or worn hinges that don't pull the window tightly against the frame can also cause draughts. Replacing the seals and adjusting or replacing the hardware usually resolves the issue at a fraction of the cost of new windows.
Yes, we can supply and fit child safety window restrictors to most types of UPVC and aluminium windows. These devices limit how far the window can open, preventing children from climbing out while still allowing ventilation. They can be key-operated for adult override and are available in white and brown to match your frames.
An espagnolette is the main locking mechanism inside a UPVC window. It runs vertically through the centre of the sash and operates multiple locking points around the frame when you turn the handle. Over time, the internal gearbox can wear or strip, causing the handle to spin freely or the window to not lock properly. We carry a wide range of espagnolette mechanisms on our van for same-day replacement.
We stock a wide range of UPVC window handles including inline handles, cranked handles, and tilt-and-turn handles in various colours including white, black, chrome, gold, and anthracite grey. We can also source matching handles for older window systems. Most handle replacements take under 30 minutes per window.
If your window frames are in good structural condition with no warping, discolouration, or damage, then repairing the hardware and replacing the glass is usually the most cost-effective option. You should consider full replacement if the frames are warped, severely discoloured, or if you want to upgrade to modern energy-efficient profiles. We'll always give you honest advice on the most practical and economical solution.
Door Repairs
Doors commonly drop over time due to worn hinges, loose screws, or settling of the door frame. A dropped door can cause difficulty closing, locking problems, and draughts around the edges. In most cases, we can realign and adjust the door by replacing the hinges, packing the frame, or adjusting the keeps and strikers to restore proper operation.
A multipoint locking system engages multiple locking points along the edge of the door when you lift the handle and turn the key. Typically, a UPVC door will have a central latch, deadbolt, and two or more hook or roller locks that engage into keeps in the frame. This provides significantly better security than a single-point lock. We can repair or replace all types of multipoint locks.
A euro cylinder is the barrel-shaped lock inside your UPVC door that your key operates. Older or basic euro cylinders can be vulnerable to lock-snapping, a common burglary technique. We strongly recommend upgrading to an anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-drill euro cylinder that meets the TS007 3-star standard for maximum security.
Anti-snap locks are specially designed euro cylinders that feature a deliberate break point near the outside of the lock. If an intruder attempts to snap the cylinder, the sacrificial section breaks away without exposing the locking mechanism, keeping your door secure. They are the single most effective upgrade you can make to improve your front door security.
Composite doors feature a solid timber core with a Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) skin, making them extremely strong, secure, and resistant to warping. UPVC doors are lighter and more affordable but can flex over time, especially in wider door openings. Composite doors offer superior insulation, security, and a wider range of realistic woodgrain finishes. We supply and install both types.
Door draughts are usually caused by worn rubber seals, misaligned doors, or gaps around the letterbox and threshold. We can replace the perimeter seals, adjust the door alignment, fit draught-excluding letterbox covers, and install brush-strip threshold seals. These relatively simple fixes can make a significant difference to your home's warmth and energy efficiency.
Rubber Seals & Draught Proofing
Signs of seal failure include visible cracks, hardening, or flattening of the rubber, draughts around closed windows or doors, increased outside noise, and condensation forming on the inside of the glass. If your seals are more than 10-15 years old, they're likely due for replacement even if they appear intact, as the rubber loses its elasticity over time.
UPVC windows and doors use several types of rubber seal including wedge gaskets that hold the glass in place, bubble gaskets that seal between the sash and frame, flipper gaskets for compression sealing, and wool pile for sliding sash windows. Each type serves a specific purpose and we carry a comprehensive range to match virtually all UPVC systems.
While some basic gasket replacements can be a DIY job, we'd recommend using a professional for the best results. Incorrect seal fitting can lead to water ingress, continued draughts, and even damage to your sealed glass units. A professional will ensure the correct seal profile is used, properly fitted, and that the window is reassembled correctly.
Replacing worn rubber seals on your windows and doors can reduce heat loss by up to 10-15%, which for an average Hampshire home could save £50-£150 per year on heating bills. The cost of professional seal replacement is typically recovered within the first year through energy savings, making it one of the most cost-effective home improvements available.
UPVC Windows & Doors Installation
A-rated double glazed windows meet high energy efficiency standards and are suitable for most UK homes, featuring Low-E glass and argon gas fills. Triple glazed windows add a third pane of glass for even greater insulation, noise reduction, and security, but at a higher cost. For most properties in Hampshire, A-rated double glazing offers the best balance of performance and value.
A standard window replacement typically takes 1-2 hours per window including removal, fitting, and sealing. A front or back door installation usually takes 3-4 hours. A full house of windows (8-12 windows) can usually be completed within 2-3 days. We always aim to minimise disruption and leave your home clean and tidy.
Modern UPVC windows are available in a huge range of colours and woodgrain foil finishes including white, cream, anthracite grey, chartwell green, Irish oak, golden oak, rosewood, and black. Dual-colour options are also available with a different colour inside and out. All foils are UV-resistant and designed to maintain their appearance for decades.
In most cases, replacing windows and doors on a like-for-like basis does not require planning permission as it falls under permitted development. However, if your property is in a conservation area or is a listed building, you may need approval from your local authority. All replacement windows must comply with current Building Regulations, which we handle through a FENSA or local authority certificate.
We supply and install all popular window styles including casement windows (side or top hung), tilt and turn windows that open inwards for easy cleaning, vertical sliding sash windows for period properties, and fixed-light windows. Each style is available in a full range of colours and can be configured with various opening combinations to suit your property and ventilation needs.
Soffits, Fascias & Guttering
Fascia boards are the long, straight boards running along the lower edge of your roof, to which your guttering is attached. Soffits are the boards tucked underneath the fascia, closing the gap between the wall and the roofline. Together they protect your roof timbers from weather damage, prevent birds and insects from nesting, and provide ventilation to your roof space.
Warning signs include peeling paint, visible rot or soft spots in timber boards, sagging or warped sections, staining from water damage, bird or wasp nests behind the boards, and blocked or overflowing gutters caused by fascia deterioration. If you notice any of these signs, it's important to act quickly to prevent further damage to your roof timbers.
UPVC soffits and fascias are the most popular choice for modern homes as they require virtually no maintenance, never need painting, are resistant to rot and insect damage, and come with long warranties. Timber can look more traditional but requires regular painting and is susceptible to rot. We recommend UPVC for the vast majority of properties due to its longevity and low maintenance requirements.
UPVC soffits and fascias require very little maintenance — an annual clean with warm soapy water is usually sufficient. Gutters should be cleared of leaves and debris at least twice a year, ideally in late autumn and spring. Check for any signs of sagging, leaks, or blockages and address them promptly to prevent water damage to your property.
